Regulatory basis

A330 revalidation is delivered under EASA Part-FCL.740.A and Appendix 9, the same framework that governs every multi-pilot aeroplane type rating. The proficiency check must be completed within the three calendar months immediately preceding rating expiry to preserve the original expiry month. Since 26 April 2021, every Instrument Rating revalidation must include an RNP APCH to retain PBN privileges under FCL.055.

Sessions are delivered through EASA-approved partner ATOs on Full Flight Simulator, with examiners holding a current Form 4 for the licence category involved.

How the A330 differs in the simulator

The Appendix 9 items are the same, but the session is built around A330 characteristics: higher take-off and landing weights, longer-range planning, engine failure handling at wide-body inertia, and A330-specific ECAM management. Where your operation involves extended range operations, the profile can incorporate relevant diversion and drift-down scenarios.

How to book

1. Email info@aerowa.com with your licence number, last check date, recent sectors on type and two or three preferred dates.
2. We confirm A330 slot availability and examiner assignment by return email — usually the same day.
3. You send a scan of your licence, medical, logbook and last LPC/OPC record for the pre-brief.
4. You arrive in Bangkok the day before, complete the pre-brief, fly the check, and receive the documentation before you leave.
5. The paperwork package is submitted to your State of Licence Issue and a copy is sent to you.

Frequently asked questions

Can I revalidate my EASA A330 type rating in Bangkok?

Yes. EASA Part-FCL.740.A allows revalidation of a multi-pilot aeroplane type rating on any EASA-qualified Full Flight Simulator of the correct type, provided the proficiency check is conducted by an EASA-authorised Type Rating Examiner holding a current Form 4. AEROWA delivers A330 revalidation in Bangkok through EASA-approved partner ATOs.

How long is an EASA A330 type rating valid?

Twelve months from issue or from the last revalidation. To preserve the original expiry month, the proficiency check must be flown within the three calendar months immediately preceding expiry. Completed earlier, the new validity runs twelve months from the check date.

Is the A330 revalidation profile different from the A320?

The Appendix 9 framework is identical, but the profile reflects A330 systems, performance and handling: heavier weights, longer-range operations, ETOPS considerations where applicable, and A330-specific non-normal procedures. Briefings are built around the A330 FCOM.

Does the A330 session include the PBN requirement?

Yes. Since 26 April 2021 every Instrument Rating revalidation must include an RNP APCH to retain PBN privileges under FCL.055. The AEROWA A330 revalidation profile always includes one.

I hold both A320 and A330 ratings — can I revalidate both?

Both ratings can be revalidated during the same visit, but each requires its own proficiency check in the corresponding Full Flight Simulator. Where you operate on a Cross Crew Qualification arrangement, some credits may apply depending on your State of Licence Issue and operator. What documents do I need to bring?

EASA Part-FCL licence, valid Class 1 medical, passport, pilot logbook with recent PIC or SIC sectors on type, last LPC and OPC records, and — if applicable — your PBN endorsement record.

Can two pilots share the A330 simulator slot?

Yes. A four-hour slot is normally split between two candidates, each flying as Pilot Flying for their own check and as Pilot Monitoring for the partner. If you do not have a crew partner we can help match you with another candidate.

How far in advance should I book an A330 session?

Four to six weeks is ideal. A330 simulator availability in the region is tighter than A320, so earlier notice gives you more choice of slot times. Last-minute availability is occasionally possible — contact operations.
